Commission.
Paterson, NJ, October 24, 2008: The
American Arab Forum, a Paterson-based think tank, welcomes the
appointment of Mr. Hani Mawla as chair of the newly enacted New
Jersey American-Arab Heritage Commission. At a special signing
ceremony in Wayne, NJ, Governor Corzine signed an Executive
Order thus by creating the American-Arab Heritage Commission
geared to promoting the contributions, the culture, and heritage
of Arab Americans in the State. A total of 25 people have been
selected as Commissioners. Governor Jon Corzine is to be lauded
for his critical support of this endeavor.
Aref Assaf, president of American Arab
Forum, expressed his delight at the historic signing of the
Executive Order which was attended by many community leaders and
several high ranking officials including Congressman Bill
Pascrell. Dr. Assaf stated, "We view the creation of the
Commission as a quantum leap in mainstreaming our community, its
concern, and its proud heritage." He further added that, "Mr.
Mawla is uniquely qualified to advance the cause of the
commission and we stand ready to lend our support to
ensure the success of the Commission."

under the leadership of Dr. Assaf led the grassroots efforts to
establish the Commission. The signed Executive Order culminates
many years of hard work by many volunteers and supporters. It is
