-------------

The author received his early education at missionary schools and was thus familiar with many Christian concepts when, under Pope John-Paul II the Vatican called for a dialogue with other religions. As part of this initiative, in the late 1970s the author was invited as a lay Muslim to deliver a series of talks on Islam to some Roman Catholic nuns. This led him to look at the Bible from a Muslim perspective, and his interest grew as he learnt more about the misconceptions and historical factors that have alienated Jews and Christians from Islam.

The impact of this alienation on world events prompted further study and reflection, the results of which appeared partly as some press articles in 1998. The events of 9/11 made the need for a discourse between the West and Islam both relevant and urgent, and notes made during the study in more than a quarter of a century were then updated and are presented in this book.

Though comprising about a fifth of humanity, Muslims are hardly heard or understood by the Western world. Many factors have gone into making Islam a closed book to the West, not least being a legacy of centuries of confrontation, the most powerful and enduring being the memory of the Crusades. The alienation is also rooted in some ideas erroneously derived from the scriptures. 'In thy Seed' looks at many of these factors, examines some parts of the Bible from a Muslim perspective, and discusses the misconceptions and historical reasons that distance the West from Islam. The book deals in some depth with the following aspects, among others:

-     compilation of the Old and New Testaments

-     some core concepts in the Bible

-     possible alternative interpretation of some Biblical texts

-     the third branch of the Abrahamic tradition

-     relationship between Islam, Judaism and Christianity

-     misunderstandings and their impact

-     the need for understanding and accommodation

This work explains the Muslim point of view on many current issues, with particular emphasis on the Palestinian cause, and aims to remove many of the misunderstandings and misconceptions in the Western mind. It discusses the historical and current background of the relationship among the three monotheistic faiths, counting among them as their adherents around one half of the world's population.

I think you will find the book of interest as it deals with inter-faith relations from fresh angles and places many of today’s crucial problems in their true perspective. The book discusses many aspects of the problems the world faces today, in an attempt to find answers to some of the more important ones.
