OPINION COLUMNS
Columnists should accept decision of 39th District voters

By GERALD CARDINALE
DID YOU READ the columns by Columnist Charles Stile and Editorial Page Editor
Alfred Doblin in The Record last Friday?
Obviously, the Record does not want to accept the vote of the people of the 39th
District as ending this year's long and overly negative political campaign.
Should I be expected to regurgitate the entire campaign or do the people want me
to move forward? Stile and Doblin should get over it.
The people of the 39th District have reelected me to represent their very
important concerns as their senator for the next four years. I am grateful for
their confidence.
Sadly, it is very obvious that The Record's writers are not happy with the
people's choice. They therefore have started the next campaign. This beginning
-- their columns -- will be a freebee for the Democrats who spent close to $3
million on negative ads to deny the people my service.
American democracy is based on the people's choice. Obviously, the very liberal
Record only subscribes to our democratic freedoms when the people's choice
corresponds with its big-government agenda.
Its biased articles will have no more effect on me today than they have had for
the past 28 years. I will continue to represent the values of the people of the
39th District, not the values of The Record.
Stile and Doblin are distressed that their disinformation and bias in favor of
my opponent failed. Let me explain why.
The people of the 39th District know me. They know that the positions I take are
based on facts. I don't pull punches, but I tell the truth even when it is
unpleasant.
I truly wish my opponent had no connection to the American-Arab
Anti-Discrimination Committee, but I had, and continue to have, an obligation to
my constituents to apprise them of my opponent's background, associations and
financial support base. My opponent had a similar obligation in the recently
concluded campaign.
Legislators' votes are influenced by these circumstances. Stile and Doblin seem
blind to that consideration when it affects my opponent negatively, but
hypersensitive to their perceived negatives about my record.
If anyone wishes to become better informed about the Anti-Discrimination
Committee, the Internet can provide a lot more information than the filtered
facts that Stile and Doblin would have you rely upon. See the pros and cons for
yourself.
Look for Daniel Pipes' commentary on the committee. You will learn a lot. Pipes
was appointed by the president of the United States to the board of the United
States Institute of Peace, a federally funded agency. He is a recognized expert
on Islamo-fascism. Stile and Doblin are not, nor do they seem inclined to be.
I want to thank the people of my district for their expression of confidence. I
will continue to do my best to justify their trust for the next four years.
