Does CAIR really care? Aref Assaf
May 1, 2007"They" are at it again defaming and
castigating CAIR in the Herald News. You
recall the almost instantaneous uproar by some Republican lawmakers who frowned
upon cong. Bill Pascrell's ( D-NJ) assistance in securing a meeting place for
CAIR on Capitol Hill. We were the first entity to stand up for CAIR and more
importantly for Congressman Pascrell.
Our views were published and also several
negative responses- as expected but none from our community-also as
expected! Curiously, It took
CAIR"s NJ representative about two weeks to respond.
Even though the matter should have been old news by now,
but, regrettably, the Herald News published a
letter recently defaming CAIR and demanding an apology from the
Congressman. An apology for what? Isn't Passaic County also a home for thousands
of Arabs and Muslims to whom Cong. Pascrell must listen to their reasonable
demands? Why is it kosher/halal for the other side to literally own Capitol Hill
while a Muslim or a group of Muslims- all American taxpaying citizens-
are forbidden from entering or congregating there? Of course, for long, it was
possible for bigots to inflicts their morally bankrupt wrath on us without fear
of reprisal or challenge. But no more. We are declaring "a never again" sworn
commitment: We will never yield our rights an we will make sure others know when
and where theirs end. CAIR may not respond to the letter but my gripe is with
the community for not standing up with and for Congressman Pascrell. I hope each
one you will respond. Silence is not golden: it is complicity in perpetuating
injustice. Send
letters to the Herald News.
