The Paterson-based American Arab Forum has voiced "grave concern" about a
resolution introduced by Garrett and 109 co-sponsors, including
Reps. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-Harding, and Steve Rothman, D-Fair
Lawn. H.R. 951 condemns ongoing Palestinian rocket attacks on
Israel, and urges Egypt to take "affirmative, transparent,
verifiable steps to stop the flow of rockets" from Iran into
Palestinian territory. The forum is upset the resolution makes
no reference to Israeli occupation. "Such biased resolutions
which fail to address the root cause of violence in the Middle
East, namely the 40-year-old Israeli occupation of Arab lands,
will only further derail attempts at resolving the conflict,"
said Aref Assaf, the forum president. Garrett touted the
resolution in an opinion piece in last week's Jewish Daily
Forward. "It's time for the global community to stand up to
Palestinian extremists and fight to protect the innocent
Israelis in harm's way," he wrote. It's worth keeping in mind
that Garrett is aggressively promoting Israel's interests at a
time when one of his potential opponents in November, Shulman,
is a rabbi.
