American Arab forum endorse the NJ State Resolution to repeal certain sections of the 2001 USA PATRIOT Act

Paterson, NJ: December 10, 2005: The American Arab Forum welcomes and endorses the recently introduced resolution in the NJ Legislature to repeal certain section of the  2001 USA PATRIOT ACT resolution.
Assembly Resolution No. 189  was first introduced in the 211th Legislature  on June 21, 2004  was  sponsored by Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, District 15 (Mercer) and Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, District 15 (Mercer) and co-sponsored by Assemblyman Chivukula

Aref Assaf, president of AAF stated that " The egregious sections of the Act infringe upon the fundamental precepts of our Constitution  and must be repealed. Our liberties, our Constitution  and Bill of Rights must never be compromised even in times of great  duress", he added.

When passed, NJ will join 8 other states and close to 400 cities and towns nationwide which have passed similar resolutions.

USA PATRIOT Act  stands for The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (USA PATRIOT) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by the president on October 26, 2001. The controversial 342-page legislation greatly expands law enforcement powers and raises serious civil liberties and privacy concerns.
