Re: "Was trial tactic out of bounds?" (Front page, May 19)
I was present inside the courtroom during the trial of Imam
Qatanani when Prosecutor Alan Wolf cross-examined Rabbi David
Senter by quoting statements referencing the Quran. I was
absolutely outraged by this low blow by the government
prosecutors.
I am outraged that our own government that is supposed to
represent us and is using our tax money to better our lives and
promote peace and tolerance is using tactics aimed at
discrediting an entire religion and claiming religion causes
hatred and violence. In fact, this is an old hate tactic used by
"Islamophobes" to try and create friction and animosity within
the American community.
All one has to do is open the history books to find that some
of the biggest murderers in human history (see Stalin and Mao)
were in fact atheists and opposed religion. Are these government
prosecutors really promoting peace, tolerance and our national
interests by attempting to alienate members of one of the
world's largest religions by creating enmity?
I would like to thank Heather Haddon and the Herald News for
picking up on this extremely important subject and writing about
it because we need vigilant people in today's society who are
true promoters of peace, justice and equality. I demand from
these government prosecutors, who in actuality work for all U.S.
citizens, an apology for this low blow and a retraction of this
statement and accusation.
